Nothing can quite fulfill a sudden, out-of-season hunger for pan de muerto, the bread of the dead that’s a sweet staple of Día de los Muertos gatherings. Thankfully, those sugary loaves are in the oven this very moment, soon to be sliced and served at Día de los Muertos celebrations all over Southern California, presumably including the scheduled events in downtown San Pedro and elsewhere. (For more information on local Día de los Muertos happenings, see our calendar section.) But if you’re looking for more than just bread, Yelp.com is here to help with its upcoming Muertos-themed bash at the Museum of Latin American Art. Día de los Yelpos, as it’s called, has found in MoLAA what seems to be the perfect setting for such an elaborate event: tequila tastings from seven different manufacturers; beer courtesy of Unibroue; Jarritos for the soda-inclined; tacos, barbecue and other bites from Long Beach and Orange County restaurants; face-painting and masquerade mask-making with the crafters of the Handmade Brigade; and, of course, free ice cream from Long Beach’s lovable and omnipresent Ice Cream Man. The festivities are free with a simple RSVP, which means e-mailing Yelp your name, a link to your Yelp profile and the name of any guest you intend to include in this dark and decadent night.
