Drink of the Week
DRINK OF THE WEEK
The Red Light District

Jokes abound with a drink named the Red Light District—”Are you supposed to drink it in the window in your underwear?” zinged a friend—but the Reef Restaurant is quite serious about its custom kiwi-strawberry concoction, featuring actual pieces of fruit, a bit of rum and Skyy Passion Fruit vodka infused with kiwis and strawberries. The result tastes like something you’d order from Jamba Juice—totally fruity, but not syrup-based. Just good, clean flavors. On Thursday, you can try one for yourself for a mere $3 during our Happiest of Hours celebration from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Reef. Slated to be our biggest meet-and-drink yet, this month’s Happiest of Hours is also a fundraiser for the Long Beach AIDS Foundation. One-hundred percent of the proceeds from raffle tickets sold will go toward LBAF, with prizes from such local businesses as Frosted Cupcakery, brand-new gastropub the Factory, Bob the Chiropractor, Gallagher’s Irish Pub and the Carpenter Performing Arts Center. As if you need more reasons to head out—cheap drinks and assisting with a great cause aren’t enough? We cry selfish!—there’s the restaurant’s idyllic setting and view. Sandwiched across the bay between the new Hotel Maya and the Queen Mary, the Reef overlooks downtown’s skyline—a sight that’s sure to please come (our new-and-improved and very early) nightfall. Accessible via the Queen Mary stop from both the Passport (free) and the Aquabus ($1), this looks to be your next Long Beach adventure. Don’t miss out!
