Trader Joe’s Bavarian Style Hefeweizen

Times are tough. Just last month I had to pass on up the opportunity to go to Germany and France—all because of a little thing I like to call insufficient funds. To compensate for the memories I wouldn’t have and the gorgeous German women I wouldn’t make out with, I decided to get drunk. Feeling blue, I perused the beer section at Trader Joe’s looking for anything to numb the pain. And there it was. The answer to not only my I’m-too-poor-to-go-on-vacation sadness, but also the quick fix for my I’m-too-broke-to-buy-real-beer misery: Trader Joe’s Bavarian Style Hefeweizen. With the taste of authentic Bavarian beer still very much on my tongue after visiting the region 16 months ago, I’ve walked past this beverage many times and laughed on the inside due to the images racing across my mind of that store-brand “beer” with the white can and blue stripe that my grandma used to buy. But like I said, times are tough, and a sixer was not only affordable, it offered a chance to revisit one (major) portion of the return trip I wasn’t taking. The cap off, I took a whiff to see if the aroma was similar. It was. Next was the real challenge: the taste test. One sip led to another and another and another, each getting larger in quantity. A banana flavor grew as each gulp went down, and before I could say “danke,” I was really digging this thing! Three beers later and there was an oompah band in my living room, as well as a beautiful blonde with protruding cleavage making schnitzel in my kitchen. This Bavarian Style Hefeweizen might not be an exact replica, but trust me, it definitely gets the job done.
