TRACHT’S LOSES TRACHT

FoodGPS broke the news today that the District-approved Tracht’s inside the Renaissance Hotel will be losing Suzanne Tracht, she of Jar and also Top Chef Masters. District contributor Kevin Ferguson called over to the restaurant for a little clarity, only to be told that “nothing is changing.” When he asked about Chef Tracht’s departure, he got another explanation: they’ll be changing the menu and name, but that a restaurant will always reside in that location. No word on what specifically will replace Tracht’s, though, according to Ferguson, the restaurant is still planning on staying open until a new concept is finalized.

UPDATE: Live from dinner at Tracht’s (or whatever it is now), Ferguson says to look for a new menu as early as this Saturday.

The food doesn't suck and the place isn't a dump.

It was decent, but the mood/ambiance was always lacking. They had a great thing with the outside patio, but never made it work. I visited twice, once for dinner the other time earlier this month on a Friday afternoon.

Suffice to say, the place was dead. It seemed there was no effort to understand the Long Beach audience (hint: It's not the same as L.A.).

I know the Yard House may not be the best comparison, as they haven't been able to get a clean inspection from the Long Beach Health Department for the past few years, but sure know how to get people in for Happy Hour and cater to the locals and tourists.

I'd put blame squarely on the management. They just didn't do their homework.

Darn it, I never made it there. I've always wanted to try it but could never manage to work up the funds AND the energy to make it over there. Well, plus I always seemed to get sidelined by At Last Cafe...

Speaking of At Last- I found it to have very good food, but the service was definitely lacking. 2 servers + 5 or 6 tables = not that difficult to handle.
