When our legendary gay night spot Ripples opened in 1971, gas cost 40 cents per gallon, apartments rented for $150 per month, A Clockwork Orange could be seen for $1.50 and you could post a letter to your pen pal for just 8 cents. Disney World had just celebrated its grand opening, Greenpeace was in its inaugural months and NPR could be heard on home and car stereos for the very first time. Thirty-eight years later, Ripples endures on Ocean Blvd., home to such events as the Dreamgirls Revue and Bear Bar. Saturday’s celebration features DJs Rob and Mush, plus a gourmet buffet and prizes aplenty.
