WANNA SCAM A SENIOR?
With the arrival of the holidays and an economy whose troubles just won’t go away, a lot of people are turning to—or more accurately, on—grandpa and grandma. And our misread of a press release announcing a Senior Scam Workshop made it sound, just for the slightest moment, as if Assemblymember Bonnie Lowenthal might be one of them.
But no.
The workshop that Lowenthall will be hosting a week from today—that’s Nov. 17—is aimed at warning seniors about scams that are operating in Long Beach, and teaching them how to avoid getting taken.
That’s a relief!
Lowenthal will assemble representatives from a variety of agencies to explain the hottest frauds in their respective areas. These include: California Department of Insurance—insurance scams; California Dept of Consumer Affairs—credit card fraud; Public Utilities Commission—telephone and computer scams; Department of Real Estate—loan modification and reverse mortgage scams; Long Beach Police Department—everything else.
The workshop will be held Tuesday, November 17th, from 10 am to noon, at the Eldorado Park Senior Center at 2800 Studebaker Road in Long Beach. For more information phone 562.495.2915.
