P-T SEZ NO LOBBYIST ORDINANCE IS NEEDED
Still think we need an ordinance that would regulate Long Beach lobbyists? Then you obviously don’t work in the Press-Telegram editorial department.
In the aftermath of RDA and Development Services Department head Craig Beck’s discounted trip to Napa with his wife—and Beck’s friend, lobbyist Mike Murchison, and Murchison’s wife—Press-Telegram opinionators say everything’s fine the way it is.
” … we like Councilwoman Suja Lowenthal’s take on the matter,” an unnamed P-T scribe opines.
“She said Beck has performed well in his job, that city staff members generally have earned the council’s trust, and such things as a lobbyist ordinance sometimes engender a false sense of security.
“True. Unless, we would add, the rules are clear and sensible enough to inspire even greater trust.”
There you have it.
