LA TIMES VISITS LOUISIANA BEST SEAFOOD

Los Angeles Times reporter C. Thi Nguyen says Louisiana Best Seafood on Atlantic Avenue makes “possibly the best fried fish in all of the Los Angeles area.”

I haven’t been there for at least five years, but I’m going back.

Check it out.

Treated myself to lunch there today (06-26-2009). Really good fish! I learned that it saves you a lot of time to phone your order in ahead of time; I would suggest that first-timers get a take-home menu off of the counter so you can phone ahead on subsequent visits.
By way of trying to be helpful, it is probably worth noting that Burnett is right at 1/2 mile south of Memorial Hospital on
Atlantic OR just shy (approx. 9/10) of a mile south of the 405 Frwy on Atlantic. Not everyone is going to start out at Ocean Blvd. and travel north. I also believe that is considerably more than a mile north of Ocean Blvd. anyway. A mile up Atlantic from Ocean would only get you to around Poly High School, maybe as far as PCH. Purely a guess, but it is probably closer to 1&1/2 miles from Ocean. If I get a chance to make an odometer reading going that way, I will post the exact distance.
My only (constructive) criticism is that they don't give you one of those pre-moistened towlettes to clean your hands with when you are done eating; I think WET NAP is one the trade-names that they are sold under. Sure would have been nice(r).

dang! i gotta get over there! (before dark of course!;)
  • howardx
i saw that, i want to check that place out.

You should. I went there last night, and their batter's a little heavier than I'm used to, but it was really good.

(Also, maybe the reason it seemed heavy is 'cause I ate like eight pieces of fish. You eat enough of anything, it seems heavy.)

oh man thats got my mouth watering, hope to get there soon.

Dude, I used live right around the corner from there. Don't go after nightfall or you risk being mugged from thugs hanging out at the laundry mat across the street.

I'm not being sarcastic. That is seriously a dangerous block. Good food, but be careful.

Is this LA Times reporter a total doofus? Maybe it's just me, but I re-read his piece three (3) times and did not find the address or a cross-sreet; just a reference to being about a mile from the ocean. Does this guy expect us to go to Atlantic Avenue and Ocean Boulevard and start driving North while watching the odometer to measure a mile? He certainly makes the food sound good, though.
Gotta agree with eric; if you're going there at night make sure you take Roscoe and his six friends with you.
  • Theo Douglas
Yeah, Toad, it's not in the absolute best area of town; it's at Atlantic and Burnett. You should be okay, though. Have fun!
  • The Toad
Thank you, Theo. I will have to try it for lunch very soon.

The address is there--you have to click on the photo with "Dining Info" below it.

Thank you. I figure, if the guy was any kind of decent columnist, he could have said something to the effect of "....on Atlantic and Burnett about a mile from....". Very few additional words; a whole lot more info.
