EXACTLY WHICH WAY IS ROBERT GARCIA HEADED?
Robert Garcia will be a much-needed injection of youth, ingenuity and vitality into Long Beach politics [Dave Wielenga’s “Bring Me the Head of Robert Garcia,” Nov. 12]. I have never met anyone who didn’t respect his character or ethics, and this will be really meaningful when he starts making legislative decisions that affect the general public.

Garcia is a great guy, and you’re right, he does maintain a very solid haircut. He definitely has the politician look down, but many of the residents in the First District are hoping he doesn’t act too much like a politician when he gets into office. What’s funny is the support Garcia receives from Suja Lowenthal, but his quotes against the home-run theory of retail for downtown are an indirect shot at Lowenthal. When he states that the city’s plan for downtown has totally failed, he’s talking about the Lowenthal duo. Garcia, do us all a favor and don’t take any money from the lobbyists and special interest groups. Don’t owe them shit. Collect from the residents; we’ve got your back.

Garcia has been a member of the board of Children Today (childrentoday.org) for over two years. He is one of the most intelligent, caring and charismatic people I have ever met. Long Beach would be lucky to have him on the city council.

Having met Garcia and listened to people who know him, I am convinced he would make a fine councilman from the First District. I will support him in any way that I can.

Great article. But the meal, full of information, leaves me hungry for more almost immediately. What is it that Garcia stands for? Would he welcome the support of the right-leaning Chamber of Commerce? Does he consider himself better described as a conservative or a progressive? Does he seek, as he has received, the support of Suja Lowenthal, the staunch ally of the uber-conservative Gary DeLong? Give me some information that matters. Who IS he?

THE MARCH AGAINST H8
I didn’t know chickens had the right to marry [“‘You Done Gone and Pissed Off the Queers,’” Nov. 12]. I didn’t know queers were crammed into cages on factory farms to be later slaughtered and served up for dinner.

NO PROBLEM
This is one of the best written and most entertaining film critiques I’ve read in a long time [Lindy West’s “Charlie Kaufman has Problems,” Nov. 5]. Well done.

LETTER TO THE DEAD-ITOR
How could The District miss Day of the Dead at the Museum of Latin American Art? Not a single word can be found about it on the Web site. There are more Latinos living here than crackers, not including the halfies, so you’re not doing the city or its people any good by missing out on helping to bring in outsiders and a little cash for the vendors and museum. No, I’m not a Latinophile, nor am I a halfie, but thanks to the wonderful world of court-appointed community service, I was lucky enough to land in this great museum as a volunteer and will remain as one even after the time is fulfilled. I am truly disappointed in your lack of support, especially since my friends and I brag about your magazine all the time. You get a five-minute timeout!
