LIKEY BIKEY
There should be a lot more bicycle boulevards, not just for the cyclists but for the pedestrians as well [Russ Roca’s “Bicycle Bully-vard,” Jan. 16]. It just makes for a more livable city. Not to mention that well-planned bike boulevards probably add to property values.

If the residents of First Street are so interested in preserving their “historic district” then perhaps we should only allow bikes (invented a good 40 years before the car) and horse-drawn buggies? Seems like a plan to me. Bikes don’t poop.

Where is this bike boulevard going to be again? I can’t wait to come down from Washington, D.C., and ride my noisy bike up and down it and clothesline innocent bystanders. Hell, I may steal a bike, joyride it, then leave it burning on the side of said boulevard. Maybe there is an overpass that my bikes and I could live under while I plot my evil plan.

SWEET DREAMS
Steve Lowery made some excellent points regarding the state budget mess, but let’s not forget that Schwarzenegger’s top advisor/chief of staff is a full-blown liberal [“Vector Control,” Jan. 16]. I, for one, never bought in to the “Let’s Vote for the Action Hero” craze that swept him into office. I think voters took a vacation from rational thinking. His “I’m going to open the books,” demonstrated how naive and gullible voters really are.  Common sense would have dictated that someone without any previous experience in any elected office being put into the highest executive position in state government was not a good idea. As far as I’m concerned, the voters are really the ones to blame; they made their bed, now they’re going to sleep in it. I hope they’re satisfied.

HATER
Oy vey, oi, oi vey. Rebecca, Rebecca, Rebecca Schoenkopf. You have been terribly annoying for years. It used to be kinda cute, like winding up a retarded Janeane Garafalo doll and watching it rant in a corner. But propagating nasty cultural stereotypes is not cute [“High Art,” Jan. 9]. Nor is it funny. I realize it is popular to be a self-hating Jew, it always has been. To me it is abhorrent, but then I am Jewish and have fought to destroy those stereotypes my whole life. Perhaps you can join the Neturei Karta and go speak at Ahmedinejad’s next Holocaust-Denial summit. My suggestion . . . go to the Museum of Tolerance (again), watch The Believer, read Man’s Search For Meaning. Do something to kick the habit of hating us and yourself.

PARK IT
I read Dave Wielenga’s article on “The Battle for Armory Park” [Jan. 9]. Brian Ulaszewski’s idea is PURE GENIUS! Armory Park would provide a gateway to downtown and the East Village Arts District. It would provide a peaceful and tranquil setting for the Museum of Latin American Art. It would provide more open space in an area that longs for it. It would revitalize a beautiful but poorly maintained Armory building. It would cost the taxpayers of Long Beach almost nothing other than the elimination of a couple of hundred feet of Martin Luther King Avenue. Just another case of genius stymied by bureaucracy. You can’t tell me that eliminating MLK Avenue at that intersection will not help traffic at that intersection. I travel that route daily. Eliminating MLK Avenue is a part of the solution to the confusing traffic mess! Other traffic engineers must be brought in to solve this problem. Great article on another fumble by the city.
