Mishi’s Strudel
Mishi’s Strudel is a place of intense thought, modeled after the kind of Old World cafés where philosophies were formed and great art admired. But there’s no pretense here—Mishi’s Strudel is as simple as it gets. As its name suggests, the café fills its ovens almost exclusively with strudels, flaky pockets stuffed with only the best there is to eat. There’s an excellent apricot strudel (paired perfectly with a touch of almond extract) and a poppy seed variety, too. But the purest pastry here is the apple walnut strudel, which betters the best apple pies by adding a handful of golden raisins, walnuts, cinnamon and lemon zest. There’s also a small menu of crepes (fruit jam, chocolate hazelnut and the like). But what’s more important is that Mishi’s Strudel plans for the afternoon with a couple of savory strudels (cabbage and spinach and mushroom) built for mid-day appetites. You can easily take any of the café’s items with you, but knowing Mishi’s Strudel, it’s best if you pick up a cup of coffee and stay awhile—you’ll have a lot to digest.
