DRINK OF THE WEEK
Captain’s Dreamscicle

Has it really come to this? Sitting in Joe’s Crab Shack, drinking a tropical beverage and channeling Sammy Hagar on a Saturday afternoon? Yes. Yes it has. Actually, Cabo Wabo ambiance aside, the outside patio at this joint is a little afternoon treasure with one of the best views of the Alamitos Bay Marina and some great seats to catch the rays, bro. Recently, I relaxed at the Shack with a Captain’s Dreamscicle—an OJ, Captain Morgan and piña colada mix delight, garnished with a pineapple wedge, orange slice and cherry, topped by a pipe cleaner palm tree. The skewer rested festively on the side of the glass, watching me—that’s a .09 BAC, it seemed to say. Aye, Captain! The drink was fruity and smooth—I downed it as though it were a 7-Eleven Slurpee and I was hiding evidence from the slushie police. Somehow, I was still able to stand and walk afterwards; my companion, on the other hand, braved a gin-vodka-rum-triple sec concoction—the Titanic Tea, a veritable fishbowl of alcoholic regret. (He began to sink into my couch around sunset.) This fruity drink selection makes the Shack a perfect place to take the family. The unassuming decor and plenty of strong, hairy drinks help everyone absorb the news that little Jimmy is coming out, or that Barbara is pregnant with her cousin’s child. No matter what life throws your way, after a few of these fruity elixirs, everyone will be speaking like Ricardo Montalban: Smiles, everyone! Smiles! All hail the peacemaker: Captain’s Dreamscicle.
