An otherwise easy Saturday afternoon turned into a rough one for public transit lovers when a man snapped on a beach-bound bus headed down Anaheim Street. The man, described as being in his forties with an average build and faded jeans, apparently burst mid-trip when he started yelling out that he was going to shoot all the people in the street. His fellow riders didn’t see any weapons on him, however—they could only advise the cops to keep a lookout. But by the time they caught the bus at a stop, the man was nowhere to be found, apparently already on his way to his seaside destination.

The elderly residents of Seal Beach had been told to watch for scams before, but nothing as sinister as this weekend caller who tried to extort money from an older woman. The caller was especially cruel, claiming that he planted a bomb under the woman’s house and would detonate it unless the woman paid his mock ransom. After a quick call to the police, the house was evacuated and the woman spared. The caller, however, couldn’t be traced—well on his way back, perhaps, to simpler scams involving magazines and candy and the like.
