NOMINATE YOUR PEACEMAKER OR FOREVER HOLD YOUR PEACE
Peace Week–the week of activities leading up to the 20th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration Jan. 19–begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, with the re-dedication of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. statue in King Park, at 1950 Lemon Ave.
But your first Peace Week deadline is just 24 hours away: the Sixth District City Council office and the City of Long Beach Human Dignity Program will be taking your nominations for the 2008 Martin Luther King Jr. Peacemaker Award only until 4 p.m. tomorrow.
So start thinking. Do you know an adult or a youth who’s a tireless volunteer in “areas of peace-making, nonviolence, and/or community building,” as the press release has it?
So far, more than 20 people have been nominated–but maybe you know someone who’s been overlooked. If so, contact Tonya Martin in the Sixth District City Council office at 562.570.8616 or call the city’s Human Dignity offices at 562.570.6958.
Two winner–one adult and one youth–will be honored at the Jan. 15 Long Beach City Council meeting, each with a certificate and an award. The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. in
Council Chambers, 333 W. Ocean Blvd.
