WOW RIGHT ON TO PAPERPLANES

Thanks to Micah of Paperplanes for copying their upcoming Rhinestone Republic album for me. I have been listening only to like Terry Allen/Jerry Jeff Walker/Guy Clark/Texas ’70s buddies for weeks now and Rhinestone fits in so well. Story is that though the Planes have been laying low for a while—and I will be detailing this when I interview them in a bit—they used that time to make a ‘rock’ record and a ‘country’ record, which is Rhinestone and which is just kicking me over and over for every song so far. Consider this ‘advance praise’ for an album that’s winning me on very first listen. If they’ll let me I’ll chuck some MP3s up. Elsewise all my blogfrens (you know who you are) should get ready to line up for this one. Great work, guys. Til then, check out scratchy Guy Clark video of one of his best:

UPDATE: Big fun on Planes Myspace. Visit and listen to ‘Honky Tonk’ first, and hope they put up ‘Suits of Armor.’

UPDATE: This record rules.

One time, at the Que Sera, I saw the Paper Planes open for some other band who was supposedly amazing. The Paper Planes rocked SO HARD that the headlining band stopped schmoozing with their groupies, moved right up to the front of the stage edge and watch Micah play his guitar with their mouths hanging open along with everyone else in the room.

Lesson learned: ALWAYS go see the Paper Planes.
  • saw the same show. they were a trio that night.
