CHECK OUT PAPERPLANES AND/OR HENRY CLAY TONIGHT

Nice rainy night in Long Beach: Paperplanes (whose Rhinestone Republic is one of my favorite local releases this year) and Fast Dragon (who re-equip Karp/Jehu heaviness for this heavier decade and who opened for John Reis’ Night Marchers two weeks back) plus Transfer and DJ Clamour (is that an actual ex-member of the band the Clamour?) start what will hopefully be a long and healthy new life of live music at the Puka Bar, and then over at Prospector the Henry Clay People (whose upcoming Working Part Time EP will present awaited true documentation of their flannel-flapping Replacements-rock live show) return to probably their best natural setting for a show with Forcefield ON and Year Zero. I feel for you, public, because making both of these at once would be tough. And morally I cannot recommend you to only one. Listen and tab out your love totals below:

Paperplanes “Amazing Radio Ad For Tonight’s Show!” (Awesome)

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT UPDATE: That radio ad is so great. I love it and it makes me happy. If any bands make those in the future, please email the mp3s to me (chris [at] thedistrictweekly.com) and I will put them on the website and make a huge deal about them and try to help get people to your shows. Everyone seems like they have Garageband or something now so it shouldn’t be too hard. So let’s all make like “Crass Commercialism” and push out some local radio spots!

Paperplanes “Honky Tonk”

Fast Dragon “Keep It Stick”

(can’t get the mp3 so go to http://www.myspace.com/fastdragon)

The Henry Clay People “Andy Sings!”

Forcefield ON “Mental Notes”

The Year Zero “The Truth About Stars”
