CHECK OUT CRYSTAL ANTLERS ON ROCKINSIDER (AND OTHER PLACES)

Nice to see Cry and the Stal Antlers really starting to roll, despite this month’s rotten grand-theft-auto experience: I keep an eye on all medias lateral and above and Crystal Antlers are really cracking greater Los Angeles open. Rena checked ‘em out for L.A. WEEKLY and now JAX checks them out—very enthusiastically checks them out—for her ROCKINSIDER, which keeps a kind eye on L.A. music. Says she:

I first stumbled upon Crystal Antlers around Christmas and have seen them three times in past few weeks. It’s taking me two months to work up the courage to write about them. I’ve discovered when I find a band I really REALLY like it becomes next to impossible to feature them. I start fearing that I won’t be able to do their live show justice or find the right adjective to describe their monstrous sound. I start 8 posts and delete them all because they sound contrived and downright stupid. Then I start worrying about hype and begin carefully writing sentences devoid of the usual buzzwords, declarative statements, and my famous exclamation points.

Today I decided to get honest with myself – FUCK IT. Everyone, I LOVE THIS BAND. They’re young, raw, innovative, talented, and absolutely amazing live. Normally I politely direct people to download an MP3 and try to see the band the next time they play. This time….IT’S MANDATORY.

Aw, that is pretty cool, and had I the capability to generate actual emotional responses of my own, I would agree deeply. For further heaviness: I think Magic Lantern and Fast Dragon are gonna get very active next, and for the further tips I am sure you come to crave from early adopters like me and Reid, let me clue you on Crystal Antlers’ friend band Last Campfire, who are some deeply-schooled country rock with sweet harmonies and three lit-up guitarists. And here are streams of generous JAX’s MP3s for you to mandatorily absorb:

Crystal Antlers “Parting Song For The Torn Sky”

Crystal Antlers “Vexation”
