LET’S GET BAKED WITH MAT AND DAVE!
While Googling the words “seitan” and “sushi” (why not, right?) I stumbled across this curious site featuring a recipe for “Shiny Toy Sushi,” featuring a recipe and photo of (presumably) members of Shiny Toy Guns. The sushi turned out fantastic, and I made a mental bookmark to return to the page later.
Turns out the site hosts a (really well-produced and fun) radio show, Let’s Get Baked with Mat and Dave, which basically takes the best parts of your college radio show (awkward pauses, good songs) and mashes it together with vegan recipes, Canadian musicians and interesting cooking facts. Currently, I’m listening to “Lemongrass Coconut Curry with Laura Barrett,” (you may know Barrett from the Hidden Cameras) but there’s also shows featuring Final Fantasy, Sloan’s Jay Ferguson, The Superfantastics, and Holy Fuck (and Alicia Silverstone!). Also, I just learned that that whole thing about poppy seeds and drug tests is totally false. (Even though Snopes says it’s true?)
If you’re at all a fan of Canadians (to-fooo), Canadian musicians, vegan radio baking programs, impromptu kitchen jams, awesome jingles, and listening to cooking shows over the radio, this is totally for you. A real find!
