FROM THE MAILBOX: TOY DRIVE THURSDAY FOR FAMILIES OF LB HOTEL WORKERS
Meet in front of the Long Beach Hilton (701 W. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach, CA 90802) at noon on Thursday with Assemblymember Warren T. Furutani, 55th Assembly District; Annette Quintero, Long Beach Immigrant Rights Coalition; María Patlán, Long Beach Hilton, Housekeeper; and community, religious and labor leaders as well as Long Beach hotel workers. Bring wrapped toys and support our local hotel workers, many of whom making poverty wages. From the Long Beach Coalition for Good Jobs and Healthy Communities press release: “The average yearly salary for a Long Beach hotel, tourism, and arts worker is $19,240—nearly $2,000 below the federal poverty line for a family of four—with few able to afford health insurance let alone holiday toys for their families.”
The Coalition is an alliance of Long Beach community and religious leaders seeking to improve conditions for their fellow residents, the tourism industry and the city as a whole.
