The Daily Briefing
THE OBAMA-ENING OF LONG BEACH
It’s interesting to watch Long Beach’s superdelegates decide who they’ll support for the Democratic presidential nomination.
In today’s Press-Telegram, John Canalis writes about the decision of the last superdelegate, Ed Espinoza, 35–with whom he went to high school–and what that means for Long Beach.
Espinoza, he writes, “works as a political analyst, public relations professional and CNN commentator. He divides his time between his Long Beach home and Capitol Hill.” Ah, divided time. And Espinoza backs Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.)
This means, apparently, that we’re supporting Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.). Here’s Canalis’s analysis (sorry):
“The other Long Beach-area superdelegates made their picks some time ago. U.S. Rep. Laura Richardson, D-Long Beach, has long supported Clinton. Rep. Linda Sanchez, D-Lakewood, backs Obama. A third Long Beach delegate, who has since moved to Huntington Beach, supports Obama.”
And there you have it. Our other congressman? He’s a Republican from Huntington Beach: Dana Rohrabacher, perhaps last seen in these pages tiptoeing through Long Beach during our recent Cambodian parade, on his way to Santa Monica.
