PAGE CUTS LOOM AT SINGLETON-OWNED DAILY BREEZE

More bad news from MediaNews Group, the Colorado-based conglomerate that owns the Long Beach Press-Telegram and the Daily Breeze in Torrance.

LAObserved.com posts a memo from Breeze Executive Editor Phillip Sanfield saying the
newspaper’s four sections will be abbreviated to two on Monday and Tuesdays beginning next week. (It’s there; just scroll down the page a bit.)

And you say “Why should I care?” You should care because it’s all connected–and because ultimately, whether you live in Belmont Heights or Walteria (an area of Torrance that sounds like a carpet company) this will affect everyone’s access to facts and information about what’s really happening in our cities.

Daily Breeze reporter Gene Maddaus, you’ll recall, recently did much heavy lifting in uncovering Congressional Rep. Laura Richardson’s (D-Long Beach) housing troubles. The P-T, in turn, picked up and ran his stories, in addition to generating some of its own coverage.

Hey Theo, you for the P-T. Our paper will be making the same changes next week. Long live newspapers!

Pter, thanks for writing. Why don't you drop me a line at theo@thedistrictweekly.com? I'll be up late watching newscasters bloviate, and I'd like to talk to you about this. Thanks!
