P-T UPDATES CONDITION OF LOWENTHAL STAFFERS AFTER COLLISION

Heather Burke is the most-seriously injured of three members of Councilwoman Suja Lowenthal’s staff who were riding in a small car that was broadsided Friday afternoon by a bobtail truck that apparently ran a red light at Third Street and Atlantic Avenue in downtown Long Beach. Also injured were Ramon Aguilar and Chief of Staff Broc Coward. All were hospitalized. Press-Telegram staff writer Samantha Gonzaga supplies the latest details on the collision on the newspaper’s website tonight.

i was almost killed when a vehicle ran a red light at 6th/atlantic, and i know a few others that that has happened to, as well as 2 fatalities. I know it's not 3rd and atlantic, but there seems to be a problem of some kind related to those one way streets and Atlantic. I sure hope the city can open up the field of vision for those streets or else place warning signs and cameras up. I hope everyone recovers well. Brett

My prayers are with them. I knew Heather well when I worked on the City side. It is just a shame. I send all of them my wishes for a full and speedy recovery. I have seen a couple of bad accidents when people run those lights in downtown. It is scary.
