my dad used to deliver beer in nyc and one time i was out there visiting and i called him and he said, 'where are you exactly' i was at some starbucks/playground corner in the east village so i told him the cross streets and he said, 'last time i was there, there was a row of guys lying on the freezing ground and the cops were clubbing them across their feet to see who was dead and who was passed out.'
