Our weekly microscopic look at Long Beach

Any kid would notice these right away: they’re colorful, they’re at kid’s-eye level, and you’re not supposed to touch them. That gives you no excuse for not noticing them, however, as I’m pretty sure they’ve been a part of Long Beach since dinosaurs ruled the Earth.

ANSWER: These brightly-painted railroad ties hold up the crumbling remains of Long Beach’s beloved Pike Carousel, now housed down by the new Pike off Pine Avenue behind Islands restaurant. From recent activity, it looks like they may be moving this pretty soon, so you still have a chance to go down there and, you know, touch it. But don’t tell the cops I told you to.
