hey steve, i can't tell you how much respect i lost for you and the entire newspaper after reading your blurb about bikes in long beach.

it's not that you made fun of people wearing tight bright clothing, it's that you are so ignorant to talk about bikes versus cars in that manner. and this is supposed to be a progressive newspaper. you guys should be talking about making life easy for bike riders, not about how you want to run them over in cars.

to make it up to me how about writing a piece about the fact that bike lanes suck in this city and we could be a leader in bike mobility as opposed to being so sucky.

do something...you're bumming me out.

Mr. Lowery, if you would kindly stay in the pedestrian lane of the beach path, and not wander blindly onto the "Bike Only" lanes, you would not have to hear us yell "On your left!"

I don't know if you are aware of this Mr. Lowery, but you enjoy your paved roads because a group of bicyclists demanded them.
From the League of American Bicyclists: "The League was founded as the League of American Wheelmen in 1880. In an effort to improve riding conditions so they might better enjoy their newly discovered sport, more than 100,000 cyclists from across the United States joined the League to advocate for paved roads. The success of the League in its first advocacy efforts ultimately led to our national highway system."

And perhaps you've never heard of California Vehicle Code 21200, which states that bicyclists have all the rights and responsibilities of vehicle drivers. Beverage-holder or not, it's my lane.

In regards to the tight, bright clothes; think of it as a uniform. cycling is not only the most energy effiecient mode of transportation ever invented, but it is also a sport. You wouldn't see the Dodgers playing in volleyball shorts, or the Lakers in wool pants. It is part of the sport, and you don't have the legs for it. Sorry.

Hate cyclists all you want Mr. Lowery, but we were here before the car, and we will be here long after it dies on the side of the road.

In response to your post July 27th regarding Paul Oberjuerge and Christine Daniels, well said. I am a friend of Christine's and have played soccer with her for the last ten years. She was pretty upset with the comments having been in such a great place because of the warm response that she had gotten from 99% of the rest of the human race with her transition. Anyway, I think you nailed it on Paul's likely grudge against Christine --- she said she knew him and he never seemed to like her for some reason. Interestingly, of his blog posts, this one received 18 comments while his others received a total of one --- and that was to mock his butchering of the English language. Anyway, I know that Christine appreciated your comments as well since she linked your comments to an email group that she has me in. So, thanks again.

So the only cyclists you like are the really "top notch" ones, huh? And the rest of us that are out on the streets minding our own business getting some exercise or getting to work are what? Apparently a lot smarter than you are.
