DRINK OF THE WEEK: PABST BLUE RIBBON TALLBOYS

I’ve been drunk at Alex’s Bar many times and a Pabst Blue Ribbon tallboy has been involved in each outing. A nice tall can of PBR hits the booze enthusiast in me for a few reasons, but the main one is the price. These are never more than $4, which means I can drink myself silly for less than $20 (tip excluded). The second reason is the can itself. It’s like the women who frequent Alex’s: lean, mean, brightly colored and full of spunk. And the extra eight ounces means I don’t have to make as many trips to the bar, which works out incredibly well on busy evenings. I’m not what anyone would call a beer snob. Guinness? No thanks, you can keep that shit. I like cheap booze and there’s nothing cheaper (and I mean that in the best possible way) than Pabst. Its no-frills taste isn’t meant as a dessert drink or a pre-meal beverage. This is 100 percent “I’m getting fucked up tonight” beer. I’ve heard some complain about aluminum cans and how they don’t come in handy when you’re looking to bash someone with your drink, but I always tell those people the truth: I’m a lover, not a fighter. And I don’t waste drinks. I’m not usually one to add unnecessary romantic overtones to drinking, but when I finally spin out of control and have to give up booze for good (or at least for a while), Pabst Blue Ribbon is what I’ll miss the most.
