Once again, great article well thought out and very well spoken for exactly what is needed. Our previous manager did a very good job of keeping the wolves at bay with creative measures such as the “3 year plan” which by the way took four years and considering all the experience of working the system he was able to cascade a blissful sunset in the wake of a disaster. Now, we have an opportunity, no a responsibility to chose wisely. Shippey is a very good and likely candidate but judging by the Mayor’s comments she had better produce a wow between now and then in order for her just to survive. Most chief executives I have met in the current commercial banking industry provide acolades of how great a person is just before they receive a gold watch and the guillotine for all that hard work and service. I would be surprised if Shippey is a chosen because she is from inside city hall. We need someone who will now step up to the plate and give financial stability without creative financing or new math.

Please please keep the good ol’ boys/girls out of office. The ones that have come up within the system and probably owe too many favors to the point where they won’t be able to do a damn thing except for continue accepting the status quo. While it seems that every other city around the nation has used the past real estate push as a launching point into more thoughtful city development our city still looks the same if not worse. Only new developments are ones that everybody seems to hate like The Pike and City Place. What we need for Long Beach is a city manager with some balls. Somebody that’s willing to take a stand and turn this place around so that we’re no longer just the butt end of LA. If the entire general public seems to demand more from our city why don’t the city employees follow suit. I vote for Chris Cole as well. Sounds like he has some cahonas.

Great article. My vote is for Rich Cole….he’s a name you constantly hear with regards to smart successful city development. Everything I’ve read about him suggests progressive thinking and the skill and poltical savy to get things done. No Shippy please….

wow… all i can say is WELL DONE. All this info for zero dollars, you would think the city council would jump at it. As insightful and through as this info is, its sad that it will probably fall on def ears. I say we take city hall by way of BLOODY COUP!!!!
