A man was working well past overtime when he reported hearing strange noises inside his office building. Convinced it was more than just a few ghostly creaks and squeaks, he told police he heard voices and footsteps coming from the floor above him and saw what he deemed a suspicious-looking vehicle parked outside. He also told police he thought he spotted someone run out the front door, but that he couldn’t find anyone even near the building. Minutes later, he figured out the source of his ethereal anxiety: the nighttime cleaning crew.

It may not have been a crime, but Whittier police must’ve been jarred when they were dispatched to Santa Fe Springs after receiving a call from a woman in labor. Officers arrived to find the woman going through all the early stages of active labor—without the comfort of drugs to blanket the pain. But despite the fact that officers probably didn’t pick up any birthing techniques in basic training, they were able to successfully deliver the child—a baby girl already under the auspices of city brass.
