SHORTEST TERM EVER!

Keep your eyes on the pack of eager beavers lining up to run for Congresswoman Laura Richardson’s empty 55th Assembly District seat–which has been somewhat unassembled since Richardson was elected to Congress on Aug. 21 and left the Assembly.

There’s Los Angeles Community College Trustee Warren Furutani, Carson Councilman Mike Gipson, and a slew of others: Democrat Mervin Evans; Republican Evelyn Robertson; Libertarian Herb Peters, and American Independent Charlotte Sadiyah Gibson.

One of them will be your new Assemblyman or Assemblywoman.

But keep in mind that whoever wins the primary election Dec. 11 (and your heart!) will have to win the actual election Feb. 5 (and your heart!)–and then turn right around and run for re-election again in November.

According to our sources, Richardson was a state assemblywoman for about 261 days before getting called up to Washington, D.C.

Whoever replaces her won’t be in office much longer than she was before they’ll have to defend their title–call it eight months and change.

That’s democracy–and two-year terms–for you. If you’re broke, now you know why: it’s all the extra elections. (That and buying a vacant lot at the Salton Sea. We could have told you that was a bad idea.)
