VETERAN’S PARADE PUTDOWN
The Press-Telegram reports today that three groups have been denied access to march in Saturday’s 11th Annual Long Beach Veteran’s Day Parade. Those groups–Veterans For Peace, Iraq Veterans Against the War and Military Families Speak Out–were excluded from the parade because, organizers said, they did not “fit the spirit of the parade. The spirit being one of gratitude for what the veterans have done.” Really? These groups seem accutely aware of not only have what veterans have done but what they continue to do and propose showing them their gratitude by getting them the hell out of BlowedUpVille. Perhaps the organizers believe that by excluding the groups they are protecting parade goers from controversial views. But, as a just released CNN poll indicates, opposition to the war is now far and away the majority position. Sixty eight percent of Americans say they now oppose the war.
