The Daily Briefing
THIS IS WHY YOU DON’T VOTE
New boss, same as the old boss?
The actual primary in the 55th Assembly District race–Congresswoman Laura Richardson’s old seat–is still more than a month away.
Somewhere, people like Carson Councilman Mike Gipson, Los Angeles Community College Trustee Warren Furutani, and other well-spoken folks with a few interesting ideas are vying to win that race.
And you won’t hear a lot about it–but the Los Angeles Times has a story about the race, which seems timed to appear like it’s covering last night’s candidates forum at Veterans Park in Long Beach.
Trouble is, it reads like election stories everywhere, and the candidates sound like candidates everywhere.
There’s scant indication–particularly considering that Sacramento dateline–that the Times‘ Patrick McGreevy set foot in Long Beach last night to hear what was said.
The District was at the forum, and I’ll have more later today on what I heard and didn’t hear. Some of it was actually pretty stirring.
In the meantime, check out the Times and the Press-Telegram writing about Long Beach Harbor Commissioners joining their counterparts at the Port of Los Angeles in banning polluting diesel trucks.
