Reuters pushed out a story yesterday about the rise of sex tourism in Mombasa, Kenya. The twist, however, is that Mombasa has flipped the sexy paradigm–older women are traveling to the city to get with young men.

Our connection? Mombasa is our newest Sister City.

A month ago, the City Council unanimously approved the addition of Mombasa as one of our Sister Cities, grouping it with the likes of Sochi, Russia, Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Guadalajara, Mexico and a few others.

In a memo in support of Mombasa, Vice Mayor Bonnie Lowenthal pressed the Council to take into consideration Long Beach’s numerous similarities with Mombasa: “…its beaches, diverse marine life, world class hotels and friendly people.”

Yes, friendly indeed.
