FASHION’S VICTORIAN SECRET
Child workers fall into the Gap
Ironic or Dickensian, or both– you choose: a line of children’s clothing by a company that boasts of its ethical business practices turns out to be made by poor children working “in conditions close to slavery”. The company is the Gap, the line is Gap Kids, the exploited kids are in India, and The Observer has the details. The Gap, which has been criticized previously for some of its outsourcing practices, is officially shocked to learn that outsourcing production to countries which have a history of abusing workers would result in workers being abused.
