The dangers of mixing (criminal) business and pleasure
In addition to giving us a chance to reflect on the power of good journalism (see Will Swaim’s post below), the federal indictments of Sheriff Mike Carona also bring up many important legal and political issues. But it was one of the case’s more tawdry details that jumped off the page at me.
Among those indicted along with America’s Sheriff are both his wife and his mistress. OK, alleged mistress. Still, that’s got to make for an interesting dynamic at the defense table. It’s a shame cameras aren’t allowed in federal court. Hopefully the sketch artists will be up to the challenge of capturing the awkward tension.
